Hi all. I`ve been reading the posts here for a week or so. I am about to buy a compact and would like some advise on hp and color. I have 40 ac. 39 wooded. It has a very long driveway that needs some work and snow removal in winter. I have alot of cleanup due to six old oil wells on the property. I also have alot of drainage problems. I plan to build a house and garage and want to do alot of the work with this new tractor. I`m looking at maybe a TC29 OR bigger. I`ll need a loader, backhoe, 60in mower, a blade, and maybe 1 or 2 other attachments down the road. Any suggestions on a package would be geatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Steve; I have 37 acres at one of my residents. So, I had the same revilation, I NEED A TRACTOR, so I told my wife. So I sold my cabin crusier and bought a tractor. 1990 JD 755 4WD, 20hp, turf tires, loader and other attachments. Now I find that I NEED MORE hp, bigger loader and more weight would be nice, can't put a backhoe on a little machine like a 755, (not a real backhoe) that will really dig out stumps, etc. Morale to the Story, buy a larger machine than you think you will need. I am now looking at a JD 4400 and maybe a 4600. Hope my ramblens help.David ....

Take a look at the B20 / B21 Kubotas. Easy on the operator, compact, 4wd, hydr trans, strong digging hoe, hd mounting - easy on/off hoe, low profile/tough tires, live pto. HP is a little light for the HEAVIEST JOBs , but often times you are better off to rent a larger unit for the messy-extra HD short term work. If its your first tractor, demo-rent-work out whatever you like BEFORE you make the leap. Good Luck. ....

I was interested in getting a B20 B21 for some of the same uses above and also getting a 3PH rear Finish Mower, but my dealer said that if I wanted to do finish mowing I would be happier with a B2100 or B2400, and just get the loader and BH for them. Do they sell the B20 B21 a la carte without the backhoe or loader so you could add it later, and would it make a good machine foe finish mowing. ....

Thru the years, of taking a 3pt bh on and off an operators has a ton of bruised knuckles, pinched arms and "foul words aimed at" aggrevating pto couplers. That person would be very thankful he purchase a quick disconnect system like the B20/B21 or L35 has as standard equipment.The B20/B21 comes as either loader or loader/backhoe unit, not just a tractor. The loader is NOT a QUICK/ATTACH. In fact, it's almost a non-detach. The really tough and hd loader/bh frame design is the reason these units can take the tougher work in stride. The extra weight of the frame give the little tractors more push power thru better traction. You get a bonus safety factor because the extra weight is low to the ground improving the center of gravity.As for disadvantage in mowing, as mentioned in your post, the dealer may have found an issue that I am unware of. We have sold and leased well over 50 B20/B21s and haven't seen a disadvantage nor have we yet had a customer come back and request to trade for a B2150/B2400. If one wants to remove the loader while mowing they would NOT want a B20/B21. We have seen this issue arrise only with commerical/residential mowing/mainteance contractors. The estate managers/home owners usally leave the loader on 99% of the time. You can install turf and/or ag tires and/or oversize turf tires on these units to improve tasks applications.The HP concern for various size pto implements would favor the B2400. However, the B20/B21s handle a 60" finishing mower well.Somefolks (my friends) want the larger heavier units ie: L35s, L3010s, L2850s for push and loading power + more unclearance. Some folks (my friends) want small compact units that can pass/travel between close trees, store easier in the shed/garage, haul easier behind small pickup. " I stand - exactly- with my friends." Thanks for the feedback. My dealers issue must have been with the "no Attach loader", which in my case would be mostly a visibility issue. As a half way measure is the loader bucket quick attach?I guess if you leave it on it would be a great counter weight to a rear mower.When you look at the L35 and B20/21 these machines look super rugged. Aren't they quite a bit more expensive than their less rugged partners B2100, B2400.From what I have seen though, L35 and B20/21 must be the two most popular Kubotas, and resale must be better. ....

That is an interesting observation that I've seen posted here and elsewhere in various forms. My dad used to use a rule of thumb that followed along the lines of getting the next bigger model than you think you'll need as you will eventually need the bigger power/weight, etc. That simple rule also help keeps you from getting something way too big either. I believe that having an "undersized" machine also comes with getting comfortable with the tasks you are putting it to. Once you gain some confidence, you tend to move up in task size and complexity. This may happen sooner if its being put to heavier types of work to begin with.Lee ....
